The Samsara Driver App can facilitate messages between fleet admins and drivers. The notification behavior differs slightly depending on whether the app is actively in use or is running in the background.
In both cases, drivers cannot delete messages from the Samsara Driver App.
When the Samsara Driver App is in use
When the Samsara Driver App is in use, or foregrounded, you have the option to enable an audible 'ding' to inform drivers that they have received a new message. You can set up driver messaging in Settings > Fleet > Driver App > Features > Messaging:
To ensure that a driver hears the notification 'ding', ensure:
- The device is not on silent
- The device's volume is turned up
- The driver is on the appropriate version of the driver app. See the bottom of this article for information on the required driver app version
When Samsara Driver is backgrounded
When the Samsara Driver app is backgrounded, drivers will receive a push notification to inform them of an incoming message. This will let them know that they should open Samsara Driver to check the new message.
To ensure that a driver receives the push notification, ensure that notifications are enabled for Samsara Driver. See instructions for enabling push notifications for iOS devices and Android devices.
