For supported applications such as Google Chrome, Gmail, Slack and Microsoft Outlook, Samsara provides customization of advanced application settings.
For example, if you have concerns around productivity and data usage, you can restrict access in Google Chrome to only approved websites.
Follow this procedure to restrict access in Google Chrome to specific domains:
-
Add Google Chrome as an application in the settings of an MEM policy.
-
In MEM > Policy, select the policy for which you want to customize Google Chrome.
-
Edit the Applications in the policy.
-
In the row for the Google Chrome App (com.android.chrome), select the action menu indicated by three dots and then select Manage Advanced Settings.
-
Enter a name for the advanced settings configuration.
-
Locate the section of the configuration containing the settings for Block access to a list of URLs and Allow access to a list of URLs.

To restrict access to all websites, enter
[“*”]
into the blocked list. You can also choose to allow access to all websites except for those on the blocked list. If you choose to block specific domains, the list of domains must be in quotes, begin and end with “[ ]”, and use commas to separate multiple entries.

Enter a list of domains for which you want to allow access in the allow list.
The list of domains must be in quotes, begin and end with “[ ]”, and use commas to separate multiple entries. For example, allow access to Samsara and Google, enter

Save your configuration.

In the top right, Publish to <X> devices. Samsara will deliver the policy update to any associated devices as soon as they connect to the internet.
When the device receives the policy update, the device restricts or allows access according to the domains you specified in the advanced settings. In the example above, associated devices will only be able to use Google Chrome to access domains beginning with samsara.com and google.com.
