Note
DVIR is the US name for Walkaround Inspection in the UK.
The Samsara Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) dashboard simplifies the reporting process by eliminating paperwork and creating an efficient maintenance communication loop. The electronic DVIR helps drivers complete inspections and share information with mechanics. You can view your DVIRs in the Samsara dashboard (Maintenance > DVIR > DVIRs), along with preventative maintenance schedules and Vehicle Service Logs.
From the DVIR dashboard, you can Add a Vehicle or Trailer DVIR in the DVIRs Report and Resolve a Defect in a DVIR in the DVIR Defects Report.
To track missed or incomplete DVIR events you can Create a Missing DVIR Report. If your fleet requires inspections as part of the trip procedure, you can use the Missing DVIR report to track missed DVIRs. You can use this report to provide feedback to your drivers and to encourage timely DVIR completion.
The DVIR Defects report (Maintenance > DVIR) lists unresolved defects across vehicles in your fleet. After a driver submits a DVIR using the Samsara Driver App, any defects that have not been addressed by the mechanic are listed as unresolved in the Defects report. Mechanics can Resolve a Defect in a DVIR in the Defects report as they complete work on the vehicle. Fleet managers can use the Defects report to improve the safety of their fleet by prioritizing repair for vehicles listed as unsafe.
To be notified of any outstanding defects or potentially unsafe vehicles, Fleet managers can customize DVIR Defect Alerts to receive notifications as soon as a driver or mechanic submits a report.
To narrow the scope of results in the Defects report, apply Tags, Attributes (Ignition On and Reverse Only), or Defects (Show reports with defects). After you apply the desired filters, you can download a comma-separated values (CSV) file of the filtered results from the more actions menu ( ... ).
The Defects report displays the following fields for each submitted DVIR:

After a driver submits a DVIR from the Samsara Driver App, the DVIRs report will display all safe, unsafe, and resolved DVIRs. Unresolved defects (defects that have not yet been assessed by a mechanic) are available in the DVIR Defects Report.
You can narrow the scope of results in the DVIRs report by selecting All, Safe, Unsafe, or Resolved DVIRs. You can also apply additional filters by using the date selector (), Tags, Attributes (Ignition On and Reverse Only), Defects (Show reports with defects), and Type (Unspecified, Pre-trip, Post-trip, Mechanic).
To customize the fields that display in the report, select the columns manager () to add, delete, or rearrange the fields in the report (such as Type, Vehicle, and Status).
After you apply the desired filters, you can download a comma-separated values (CSV) file or a detailed PDF file of the filtered results from the more actions menu ( ... ).
