Customizable DVIR Settings

From Settings ( ) > Fleet > Driver App > Features, you can customize your Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) settings and track missing DVIRs.

Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) settings enable you to customize the inspection requirements that drivers submit for pre and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers. After you enable this feature, drivers complete the DVIR inspection in the Samsara Driver App and missed DVIRs are included in the Missing DVIR Report.

Configure any of the following DVIR settings:

Setting	Description
General
Require DVIRs to be marked as pre or post trip	To force drivers to identify the type of DVIR as either pre or post trip, enable this setting. When this setting is disabled, the field is optional.
Prevent drivers from marking unsafe DVIRs as safe	To prevent drivers from accidentally or purposefully changing an unsafe DVIR to safe, enable this setting.
Defects
Enable mandatory Checklist	Drivers will be required to explicitly review and acknowledge every item in the defect list before completing a DVIR. Note Mandatory Checklists are enabled by default for fleets in the United Kingdom. For more information, see Walkaround Inspection (UK).
Require comments on DVIR defects	Force drivers to supply details about defects (items that require inspection on a regular basis). When this setting is disabled, comments are optional.
Prevent drivers from resolving DVIR defects	In cases where you want to enforce administrator oversight to resolve a defect, you can disallow drivers from resolving defects. When this setting is enabled, drivers cannot click into defects to resolve them. In addition, the Samsara Driver app does not automatically resolve defects if a driver submits a safe DVIR.
DVIR photos
Require at least 1 DVIR photo	Allow drivers to submit a DVIR with a minimum of one photo. When this option is disabled, photos are optional.
Require all DVIR photos	You can also force drivers to supply four walkaround photos (one per side).
Prevent drivers from choosing a photo from their mobile library	Force drivers to take photos using the camera and prevent them from choosing photos from their library. This enables you to ensure that the photos are always up-to-date.
Missing DVIR Report
Require pre-trip DVIRs	If your organization requires that drivers submit a DVIR before taking a trip, enable this setting to track missing DVIRs in the Missing DVIR Report.
Require post-trip DVIRs	If your organization requires that drivers submit a DVIR after completing a trip, enable this setting to track missing DVIRs in the Missing DVIR Report.
Other
Enable Sanitization Tracking in DVIRs	Sanitization Tracking enables you to keep track of vehicles that have been or need to be sanitized in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This also helps drivers to maintain good sanitation habits. When enabled, Samsara adds the Vehicle Needs Sanitizing defect to your DVIR template. Drivers can then select this defect in their inspections and you can view the status of the defect in Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. You also have the option to automatically add the Vehicle Needs Sanitizing defect to all post-trip DVIRs.
Show all inspected items in completed DVIRs	Display all inspected items in each submitted DVIR on both the Samsara dashboard and the Samsara Driver App.
