Samsara permits the use of third-party vehicles/drivers without Samsara hardware. In the absence of VGs, you must manually download the files from the tachographs. Samsara does not provide analytics tools to analyze files downloaded from tachographs offline but you can upload the driver files and take advantage of our analytics to provide visibility in the following use cases:

Contractor's tachograph data that don’t have Samsara installed

Own FTE drivers driving temporary replacement vehicles without Samsara

Filling gaps in automatic downloads (such as due to a driver or a mechanic disconnecting a VG) with manual downloads
Samsara supports upload of tachograph data in the following formats: .ddd, .c1b or .zip with driver files. To ensure the driver name and tachograph number appear in the expected format, you must create a driver profile in the Settings page containing both fields.
You can manually upload tachograph data from the More Actions menu of the Compliance > Tachograph Downloads page.

After you upload the data, you can use all of the tachograph analysis capabilities such as infringement reports.
