For fleets in Europe, you can use a tachograph to capture and report driver and vehicle information from your commercial road vehicles. When a compatible tachograph device is connected to Samsara Vehicle Gateway (VG), you can use the Samsara Cloud to remotely request and download the following files:

Driver files: All the data recorded on the driver tachograph card. Samsara automatically downloads driver files at the beginning of each trip when the driver has inserted their card into the tachograph and a connection is available.
A driver file will indicate that it is unassigned when the card number is not associated with a driver profile. To resolve this, you can edit the details of a driver profile or add a new driver from the Tachograph Downloads report.

Vehicle files: All vehicle data up to the previous download. When a connection is available, these files typically upload every seven days.
From the Samsara dashboard, you can view these files in Compliance > Tachograph Downloads.
To ensure successful tachograph downloads, the following conditions must be met:

The vehicle engine must be on.

Both the tachograph and card reader hardware must be installed correctly.

Company card information such as expiration date must be correct.

The correct company card must be locked in to the tachograph. The card must be inserted in the card reader.

For detailed analysis, Samsara offers several Tachograph Integrations with leading analysis tools, and files retrieved remotely from tachographs using Samsara products and services can be used with these solutions.
