Install AG52 on Equipment or a Dry-Van Trailer

When you install an AG52 on equipment or a dry trailer, the 7-way cable utilizes the power interface from the pulling or towing vehicle to enable the AG52 to function in real time. The AG52 operates in battery-saving mode when not connected to tractor power. Review the AG Cable Matrix (Dry-Van Trailers and Powered Assets) to ensure you obtain the appropriate cable for your configuration.

Install an AG52 on a Dry-Van Trailer (7-way Install)

To install the AG52 on a dry-van trailer:

1. Activate the device in your dashboard if you have not already done so.

   Log into the Samsara dashboard or go to https://cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your Order Shipped email.

2. Select the desired mounting location and clean thoroughly.

   Tip

   When selecting a location for your device, reference the following tips:

   • Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach the AG and the electrical connection.

   • Ensure that the AG has a clear view of the sky.

   • Avoid installing the device within metallic structures, such as within metal trailers. Placement in such structures may adversely impact device cellular and GPS connectivity.

3. Attach the gateway to the asset using the provided screws. If you choose to fasten the device with your own screws, use the following recommendations for screw size to avoid damage to the device mounting tabs:

   • Screw size: #6 (Imperial), M3.5 (Metric)

   • Shank diameter: </= 3.6mm (0.13 inch)

   • Head diameter: </= 8mm (0.31 inch)

   • To purchase additional screws, visit the following recommended supplier websites: Metric, Imperial, rivet style, self-drilling/tapping

4. Plug the cable into the AG and twist to secure.

   

5. Run the length of the cable to the 7-way connector and use the zip ties to fasten the cable to the trailer.

6. Connect the wires on the other end of the cable to the 7-way connector:

   Connect the White wire (ground) to negative. Connect the Brown wire (head/tail lights) to 9-31 VDC power. Connect the Blue wire (ABS/Constant Power) to 9-31 VDC power. Cap the unused Green/White wire (Input 0).

7. Cap any unused wires.

8. Complete the AG52 Device Setup.

9. Manage the trailer from the Samsara dashboard.

Note

If you observe a cable error when you install the AG with the installer app, disconnect and reconnect the cable to the AG. Ensure the cable is correctly aligned with the 7-way connector and securely locked onto the asset gateway.

Install an AG52 on Powered Equipment

When you install an AG52 on powered equipment, you utilize the power interface from the asset using the powered AG cable harness with power and auxiliary inputs (for engine hours). After you connect the asset gateway to power, it will operate in real time. If power is not available from the asset, the AG will power from the internal battery in power-saving mode. The AG can function on an internal battery for up to 12 months.

Review the AG Cable Matrix (Dry-Van Trailers and Powered Assets) to ensure you obtain the appropriate cable for your configuration.

To install the AG52 on a powered equipment:

1. Activate the device in your dashboard if you have not already done so.

   Log into the Samsara dashboard or go to https://cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your Order Shipped email.

2. Choose a location for installation depending on asset type and use case.

   Tip

   When selecting a location for your device, reference the following tips:

   • Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach the AG and the electrical connection.

   • Ensure that the AG has a clear view of the sky.

   Connect the White wire (ground) to negative. To provide continuous power to the AG, connect the Blue wire (ABS/Constant Power) to 9-31 VDC. Alternatively, to power the AG only while the equipment is powered on, connect the Blue wire to the switched power. Cap the unusued Brown wire (head/tail lights). (Optional) To track a digital state of the asset, such as synthetic engine hours using ignition state or to track other digital states, connect the Green/White wire (Input 0) to the desired source. Cap this wire if not used. To verify electronic component compatibility, review the AG52 Data Sheet (PDF). Cap any unused wires.

6. (Optional) Use the provided zip ties to ensure that the cable does not obstruct activity.

7. Complete the AG52 Device Setup.

8. Verify successful connection in the Samsara dashboard (Overview > Assets > Equipment).
