Samsara provides different types of alerts that you can use to monitor important events for your organization. For each use case, there are one or more types of alerts that you can customize. The configuration steps for each alert differ by the alert type and version. In the tables below, v 1.0 denotes legacy alerts and v 2.0 denotes alerts introduced in October 2022 or a later release.
After you configure an alert, you can view incidents from Alerts ( ) > Alerts Incidents. The time zone of the alert on the dashboard displays the time based on the user's desktop settings, however the alert trigger email notification is based on your organization's locale.
The following topics describe the alert triggers by use case along with the associated version:

GPS Signal Loss v 1.0 |
Alert when a VG does not receive any GPS data. To set a GPS Signal Loss alert, configure the signal loss time (minimum threshold of 20 minutes), define the alert for all geofences or for Risk Zone geofences only, and set the alert source (all Vehicle Gateways, specific tags, or specific Vehicle Gateways). See Enhanced Security-Related Alerts for additional settings options and information. NoteAvailable in Mexico only. |
Gateway Disconnected v 2.0 |
Duration-based alert for gateway connectivity. A gateway is considered disconnected after a heartbeat communication is not received for a five hour period. To set a Gateway Disconnected alert, specify the duration after which you want to raise an alert (either 15 minutes or 60 minutes) and the alert source (all vehicles, specific vehicles, or specific tags). |
Gateway Unplugged v 2.0 |

Asset stops moving v 2.0 |
Duration-based alert for when an asset stops moving. To set an Asset stops moving alert, specify the duration after which you want to raise an alert and the alert source (all assets, specific assets, or specific tags). |
Geofence v 2.0 |
Alert when an asset interacts with a geofence in one of the following ways:
NoteYou can create up to 10 alerts that use bulk geofence targeting. Bulk geofence targeting enables you to send alerts to multiple addresses at a time. This includes targeting all addresses, multiple addresses by tag, or multiple addresses by type (for example normal or risk zone). To set a Geofence alert, specify the geofence activity for which you want to raise an alert, the geofence area or address, and the alert source (all assets, specific assets, or specific tags). Avoid alert configurations which include a geofence that is entirely inside another geofence. This will cause inconsistencies with alerting inside or outside those geofences. If you must alert on a geofence that is entirely inside another geofence, create two different alert configurations per geofence. |
Unpowered Asset Movement v 1.0 |
(AG45/AG46/AG51 only) Alert when an unpowered asset starts and stops moving or alert when the asset stops moving. Set the alert source (all assets, specific assets, or specific tags) and an optional alert schedule. |
