Flexible Areas of Interest

To zero in on specific use cases in your camera footage, you can use Flexible Areas of Interest. To identify a specific area that you want to monitor, you can draw polygonal shapes over your video stream. This, coupled with proactive AI alerts increase the accuracy of the alerts and reduce alert noise.

Create an Area of Interest

For each stream, you can go beyond a simple rectangle to create many-sided polygonal shapes to identify one or more Areas of Interest that you want to monitor. Shapes can also overlap and therefore may trigger multiple alerts for intersecting areas.

To create a new Area of Interest:

1. On any Site stream, select the Area of Interest icon in the top left corner of the screen.

   

2. When the cross hair cursor appears, drag and drop an initial rectangle with four anchor points and four intermediary ghost anchors.

   

3. Manipulate the shape using any of the following techniques:

   • Drag any anchor point into the desired position.

     Each time you select a ghost anchor point and drag it, the new anchor is created with new ghost anchors in the middle. Each shape can have up to 20 anchor points.

     Note

     Avoid creating shapes that have self intersecting lines as they can cause unexpected behavior.

     

   • Move the entire shape to a new position: Hover over the center of the image to show the hand cursor, then click and drag the shape to the desired place.

   • If you make a mistake and want to delete an anchor point, double click on it. The line snaps back to join the two outer points.

   • To start over completely, click outside of the bounding box and repeat the process to create your initial rectangle.

4. Give your area of interest a descriptive name in the panel on the right.

   The selected area of interest is shaded in blue.

   

5. Save the Area of Interest, when finished.

6. Click Add Alert to create alerts for the Area of Interest.

   Add a person, moving vehicle, or motion-based alert that will trigger when at least one pixel intersects with the bounding box to indicate a detection. For more information, see Site Alert Types.

Change an Area of Interest

To change an existing Area of Interest for a stream:

1. On any Site stream, select the Area of Interest icon in the top left corner of the screen.

   All predefined areas display on the stream.

2. Select the area of interest you want to change either by selecting the shape in the stream or the name of the shape in the Areas and Alerts panel.

3. Change the area as desired.

   • Manipulate the shape as described in Create an Area of Interest.

   • Rename the area in the Areas and Alerts Panel.

   • Delete area from the Areas and Alerts Panel.
