Depending on the needs of your fleet, you may have mobile devices that are physically attached to your vehicles or you may assign mobile devices to specific drivers and allow the device to travel with the driver between vehicles.
As part of your day-to-day operations, it is important to understand where your devices are located and who is associated with those devices. This information can help inform decisions such as whether to wipe or lock a device in the event it is in an unexpected location.
Samsara provides visibility into the location and device user for all enrolled devices on the MEM Overview page. To appear on the map, the devices must have the Samsara Agent installed and running, been previously enrolled with Samsara (see Provision and Set up the Samsara Agent), and have a Location Mode set to High Accuracy in the device policy.
To view a device location:
-
From the Fleet menu, select MEM Overview.
-
Locate the device in the list of devices to the left of the map.
If you have a large number of devices, you can Search by device name, device ID, signed-in driver, or vehicle name; or filter by one or more criteria (Policy name, Mobile Device Model, and Software Version). You can also sort the list of devices by last known location (newest or oldest) or alphabetically by device name (A-Z or Z-A).
Important
For each device, you can View Device Details.
-
Select the device name to locate the device on the map.
On the device map, click the zoom icon or use the map zoom controls (+ and -) to zoom in and out on the device location.
You can also click the message icon to open messaging to send a direct message to the last known driver associated with the device.
