In accordance with CCMTA (Canada) and FMCSA (US) rulings, electronic logging devices (ELDs) record driver location data in the driver log at 60-minute intervals when the driver powers up and shuts down the engine, changes duty status and operating jurisdiction, and indicates personal use or yard moves, and when the vehicle is in motion.
For each event, the ELD converts latitude and longitude coordinates into geo-location information. Each location is an approximate distance and direction to an identifiable location that corresponds to the name of a nearby city, town, or village, with a state, province, or territory abbreviation.

ELD geo-location is approximate and does not record precise driver location information in driver logs.
