Due to exemptions, vehicle type, or operating mode, some drivers do not need to log Hours of Service. For these drivers, you can configure their driver profile as ELD Exempt when you Add Drivers so that they can use the Samsara Driver App without worrying about unnecessary Hours of Service features or violations.
If a driver attempts to access HOS or related features, the Samsara Driver App displays a notification of their ELD Exempt status including the reason you supply in the driver profile. For more information on the driver notifications, see the Samsara Driver App Guide.

The Driver Log for a specific driver displays the following information, depending on the vehicle type:

Regulated vehicle: If a driver signs in and operates a regulated vehicle, Samsara runs auto-duty to provide you with details about the driver activity for the day. You can see the Driving Duty Status from the Samsara dashboard. When the vehicle stops moving, the duty status changes the driver to On Duty. This means the driver will be in either On Duty or Driving since the driver cannot select Off Duty from the Samsara Driver App. To go Off Duty at the end of the day, the driver can use the Driver Portal Kiosk.

Unregulated vehicle: Because auto-duty is not relevant for unregulated vehicles, if a driver signs in and operates an unregulated vehicle, the driver remains in Off Duty. If you still want to track driver time for On Duty purposes, you can instruct your drivers to use the Driver Portal Kiosk Mode feature to go On and Off Duty.
