While a powered Asset Gateway (AG)—such as the AG26, AG46P, or AG52—receives power, it checks in and logs its location continuously. When the gateway loses power, the AG continues to provide location data every 12 hours, by default, for up to 7 days. After 7 days, Extended Power Loss Settings are automatically enabled.
If theft or unauthorized use are your primary concerns, you can configure the check-in frequency to increase the check-in cadence, such as every 30 minutes. Alternatively, if your primary concern is to preserve the AG battery life, you can reduce the check-in frequency.
To view the check-in history of the AG:
-
From Fleet Overview ( ) > Assets, locate or search for the asset from the list.
-
Select the asset to view the asset details.
-
Expand the Gateway menu to view the power source details, last connection timestamp, and current check-in setting.
-
To edit the check-in rate, click the more actions menu ( ... ).
-
Locate the Check-in frequency settings.
-
Select Device-specific settings and set the check-in interval (Every 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours (default), or 24 hours).
-
Save to confirm the settings.
If an AG does not receive power for an extended period of time, such as in the case of seasonal powered equipment or trailers in repair, Samsara temporarily reduces any frequent AG check-in intervals to preserve battery life. If an asset with a check-in frequency less than 12 hours has not received power in over 7 days, Samsara automatically decreases its check-in frequency to 12 hours. The AG resumes continuous check-ins when connected to power.
