Speeding Reports

Speeding is a risky behavior that increases the likelihood of injury and damage to the driver, surrounding passengers, and vehicles. Speeding Reports help you identify instances of speeding, coach drivers, maintain accurate speed limit data, and tailor speeding definitions and enforceability to the needs of your organization. You can run reports to display events of a maximum duration up to one year.

From the Samsara dashboard, you can review each of the following speeding reports:

• Speeding Reports for Drivers and for your Organization: Compares speeding trends and incidents of drivers or vehicles with the relative impact to the safety score.

• Trip Speeding Summary Report: Displays speeding behaviors and incidents for a completed trip.

• View the Asset Speeding Report: Displays a map and line graph of the most recent speeding history of an asset.

Speeding Reports for Drivers and for your Organization

You can monitor the speeding trends, score impact, and speeding incidents of your organization and individual drivers using Samsara Speeding Reports.

The Speeding Report comprises of the following widgets:

• Speeding Impact: Overall effect on the safety score and the impact to safety score based on behavior by speeding severity (severe, heavy, moderate, light).

• Speeding Trends: Highlights speeding event trends by Score Impact by Week, Speeding % (distribution of speeding behaviors over time), and distribution by number of Speeding Events. Only speeding incidents that exceed the configured speed thresholds count as a Speeding Event.

Below the widgets, the report lists all drivers with speeding activity during the selected time range in order of rank, by default from lowest to highest safety score rating. For each driver, the report displays the following fields:

Field	Description
Rank	By default, the report displays drivers from the greatest to least score impact. Only drivers who have driven during the selected time range display in the list.
Driver	Driver name and location
Score Impact	Calculated impact the overall safety score
Change	Difference in the driver's safety score during the selected time range
Hours Driven	Total hours and minutes driven
% Over Speed Limit	Distribution of overall driving time over the speed limit and the total speeding time in hours and minutes
Severity	Distribution and time in each severity category (configured in Speeding Settings).
Manual Speeding Events	Manually added speeding events not automatically recorded. Number of events per 1,000mi.

To view the Speeding Reports for your organization or for individual drivers or vehicles, perform the following workflow:

1. From the Samsara dashboard, navigate to your Safety Overview ( ).

2. Within Risk Factors, click View Details for the Speeding risk factor.

   

3. Compare drivers or vehicles in the Speeding % and Speeding Events graphs: select Compare and use Tag Comparison to display only drivers or vehicles with specific tags.

   

4. Hover over any data point for a detailed breakdown of speeding behavior activity.

   

5. Modify the scope of the results:

   • Use the date selector to view events during a specific timeline. By default, the Speeding Report for your organization displays all driver activity during the last 30 days.

   • By default, the report displays all drivers. To narrow the scope of the results or to view the safety report for vehicles, select Drivers or Vehicles.

     

6. To view the Speeding Report for a specific driver or vehicle, first select Driver or Vehicle, and then select the driver or vehicle from the list.

   

Trip Speeding Summary Report

The Trip Speeding Summary report enables you to see speeding behavior of each trip in the most granular detail, which also includes the speeding report for a specific driver or vehicle.

To access the Trip Speeding Summary:

1. From your Samsara dashboard, go to Reports ( ).

2. Within Activity, select Trip History.

3. Select Trip Speeding Summary on the trip row.

   

4. Hover over a specific time on the speeding chart to view the distribution of speeding behaviors and the vehicle location on the trip map at that time.

   

The Speeding Report provides the following information for each trip:

Report Section	Description
Speeding summary	Speeding event count, time, and total time (as a % of the trip) statistics by severity.
Trip map	Trip path color-coded by speeding severity (configured in Speeding Settings).
Trip details	Starting (A) and ending (B) points and times, driver name, vehicle name, and trip duration.
Speeding graph	Speed over the trip duration, color-coded by severity (configured in Speeding Settings).
Table of speeding incidents	Lists speeding events and severity by chronological order.

View the Asset Speeding Report

To view the speeding history of drivers using a specific asset or vehicle, you can view the asset speed map and graph. The map highlights speeding events in red and displays a map of the asset location.

To view the asset speeding report:

1. In the Samsara dashboard, navigate to Overview ( ) > Assets.

2. Select the asset from the Assets list.

3. On the asset graph, select Graph Data > Speed.

4. Hover the line graph to view speed data and corresponding location on the map.

   

5. To enhance the data during a time period, click and drag to select and view the time period.
