As part of Hours of Service Regulations, there are rules that dictate how much time you should spend in Off Duty status. These rules exist in addition to the normal Off Duty rules that apply to resetting the allowable Drive, On-Duty, and Shift hours. In Canada South, there are both Off Duty rules that apply in relation to shifts and rules that apply to daily requirements. To be compliant with regulations, you must adhere to any applicable shift-based off-duty rules and the daily off duty rules.
The two dials on the bottom of the HoS screen can help you to manage their Daily Off Duty time appropriately. For drivers in Canada South, the Off Duty (10 hr) dial will show the total amount of Off Duty time required in a day. The Off Duty (2 hr) dial will count down from 2 hours, but only decreases if you take a period of rest greater than 30 minutes. The progress bar in the middle of the clock counts up to 30 minutes and then resets to help you understand if the period of rest you are taking will count. However, the Driving, On-Duty, and Shift clocks will be in violation if the appropriate reset time is not taken.
After you’ve completed all of the post-trip tasks in this section, you’re ready to end your shift on the Samsara Driver App. To end your shift, you must both change your status to Off Duty and sign out from the Samsara Driver App.
