We know how frustrating asset theft can be. To make it easier to track and locate your equipment, review the steps to take by gateway type:
Real-time tracking of GPS data is enabled by default for all vehicle gateways and powered asset gateways. From your Samsara dashboard, you can look up the specific gateway and locate the gateway if it is currently powered up. Samsara automatically collects GPS data in the Full and Moderate power modes, which are in effect when the vehicle is in motion and 3 hours after the vehicle stops. You can also change these power modes to allow for additional tracking time after the vehicle is stopped. For more information on changing the power modes on your VGs, see Vehicle Battery Conservation.
To conserve battery power, AGs provide GPS data every 12 hours by default. You can access the GPS location information for an AG from the Samsara dashboard similar to how you would access VG GPS data. If desired, you can change the frequency of how often the AG checks in with the Samsara cloud. You can also enable Wake on Motion to enable you to track the AG whenever it starts moving and stops moving. This can be helpful in locating your equipment. For more information, see Wake-on-Motion-and-Check-in-Schedule.
Note
Any changes you make to the check-in timer in the Samsara dashboard do not take effect until the AG completes its next check-in that was scheduled prior to any changes that were made.
