For large fleets, managing multiple addresses in the dashboard can be cumbersome. As an alternative to manual configuration, you can create addresses in a single instance using a comma-separated values (CSV) file.
You can pre-populate a CSV file with multiple addresses to quickly import them into your dashboard. At a minimum, the CSV file requires that you specify the Name and Address, but can contain additional relevant information for the location. Use the example below or download the template from the Samsara dashboard.
If the ID matches the ID of an existing address, Samsara overrides the address with the one you specify in the CSV file. In addition, Samsara uses the default radius you specify during upload for all locations. After you upload the addresses, you can manually adjust the geofence shape. See Manage an Address for more information about geofence configurations.
After the locations are uploaded, the descriptions for each address display on the map in the specified locations.
The easiest way to create addresses is to first download the address list from the Samsara dashboard. Samsara provides the addresses list in a CSV format and includes all editable fields. Consider the following notes before making changes to the addresses list:
-
The file must be properly formatted CSV file.
-
The first row of the CSV file is the header row, and you must include it in the file.
-
The header row must contain all required fields from the CSV table.
To bulk upload addresses:
-
Select Settings ( ) > Fleet > Addresses/Geofences.
-
Select the actions menu (...) > Upload CSV.
-
Select Sample Template to download a file containing the field headers or Addresses List to export the full list of addresses if you need to make changes to any existing addresses.
Note
You can only use this template containing the list of addresses and the fields that are configurable. Any other format will display an error.
-
Update the file in your preferred spreadsheet application and save as a CSV file (see CSV Format for Addresses for detailed formatting requirements).
-
After you edit your file, select Upload a file.
-
Choose the CSV file from your computer, or drag and drop the CSV file to the window.
-
Choose the Default Radius to define the geofence boundary of the addresses if none is specified in the file (default is 250m).
-
Click Preview and then review the entries to make sure the changes match your expectations.
-
Click Confirm to save the changes.
If a mistake is made during a bulk upload, such as a missing state in the address line, use the following workflow to remove all addresses:
-
Select Settings ( ) > Fleet > Addresses/Geofences.
-
Select the actions menu (...)> Remove all addresses.
-
If needed, Add an address individually or re-perform the steps to upload the CSV file.
To import addresses in bulk you enter your addresses and additional relevant information in a CSV file.

Here are some important things to keep in mind when you create your file:

-
The first row of the CSV file is the header row, and you must include it in the file.
-
The CSV file must contain no more than 500 rows of data (including one row for the header).
