You can view the health of unpowered Asset Gateways (AGs) in the Gateway Health Report of your Samsara dashboard. If the Gateway Health Report displays a Needs Attention
or Requires Investigation
status, the device is experiencing low battery conditions.
After you replace the batteries, you must update the device battery status from the Samsara dashboard. Use FANSO ER14505M Lithium batteries when you replace existing batteries in the AG46. FANSO ER14505M Lithium batteries are specialty batteries; the AG46 will not function with consumer grade AA batteries. For your convenience, you can purchase replacement batteries from the Samsara Webstore.
Warning
Do not attempt to disassemble or modify lithium batteries or Samsara monitors. It is your responsibility to replace Samsara sensor and unpowered asset gateway batteries and you do so at your own risk. Refer to the replacement battery’s Safety Datasheet for more safety information about lithium iron disulfide batteries.
To reduce the likelihood of possible injury, replace batteries with the battery type and replacement procedure recommended by Samsara. Reference the product documentation for the recommended battery for more information.
Batteries may only be replaced by a trained technician. Lithium battery training is available online, but Samsara provides this link only for convenience without warranty of any kind and is not responsible for the content or sufficiency of the identified training.
Improper replacement of the batteries may result in fire, personal injury, and damage to property.
To prevent fires from battery disposal, use insulating tape to insulate the battery terminals and place batteries in separate plastic bags. Never place these batteries in household garbage or recycling bins. Check with your local solid waste management authority for proper disposal and recycling options.
Review the following guidelines for battery replacement and follow all instructions in a safe area outside of any building or vehicle away from any combustible material:

With a Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws on the back enclosure of the AG. Reference the following tips to use a pry tool or a suction cup to aid in removal of the back enclosure.

Suction cup removal (recommended): use the suction cup to gently remove the back enclosure.

Pry tool removal: Insert the pry tool near the gateway mounting holes to avoid damage to the internal gasket.

Inspect the AG and ensure it does not show any evidence of water ingress, corrosion or physical damage. If the device indicates potential incidences of water ingress, corrosion, or physical damage, request or purchase a replacement device instead of proceeding with battery replacement.

If the device does not indicate incidences of water ingress, corrosion, or physical damage, remove the plastic battery cover and replace the batteries with the batteries recommended above. Take care to not puncture, crush, or short circuit the batteries during this process. Be sure to correctly position the battery. Find the positive and negative indicators inside the device and on the battery. Do not use alternate battery types.

After you insert the batteries, return the plastic battery cover and the back enclosure to its original position while applying ample pressure to the edges of the back panel to ensure the panel seal is set. Lock the panel in place with the device screws.

Dispose used batteries safely and in accordance with applicable laws.

Log in to the Samsara dashboard.

From Overview ( ) > Assets > Unpowered, search for the asset or locate the asset from the list.

On the device row, click the more actions menu ( ... ) > Mark as battery replaced.

Click Confirm to update the battery health to 100% in the Samsara dashboard.
This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
